i may have a lot of callings....

but I'm not sure golf is it right now.

In the spirit of trying all things new, I decided to take a friend up on an offer to go to the driving range (for the second time ever in my life) to hit a bucket of balls. This whole thing started when I was talking with coworkers about how "I-really-think-I-should-learn-how-to-golf" and how a former professor told us way back in the day that taking up golf lets you connect with people you normally wouldn't. So, I found myself at the range.......

My lesson went something like this:

"You know you have to put down your phone to golf, right?"

"It almost looks like you are swatting away bees from attacking you."

"Bend your knees more, stop swinging it like a bat and don't take your eyes off the ball."

"A true golfer can golf with the wind."

From the kids next to us, "Dude, that girl hit the last few balls farther than you." Damn right I did - ok, so maybe it was only about 10 I hit anywhere near the flags.

After laughing at myself for missing three balls in a row..."Ok, golfing lessons are something you probably will want to consider if you want to play 9 holes."

it was windy, that's the only explanation for this

Next up on my list - boxing. Yes, you read that right.

I want to take a few boxing lessons and not kickboxing either. I want the gloves, the ring, the mouth guard and the person to box with back and forth because it's something I want to add to my ever growing list of workouts to try. Accepting suggestions now.

Who is with me?

Ha. Golf is not for me. No matter how many times Jay tries to get me to like it. I think I just hate it more every time he takes me!

I want to try boxing SO BAD!! Do you seriously know of a place? I'm in!

Your set up to the ball is actually not that bad. More knee bend would help. When I taught my wife how to golf, I told her that she needed to bend her knees and stick out her ass. I think she thought I was checking her out... which I was, but I also was teaching her the correct golfing posture.

It's an addicting game. A couple of good shots will keep you coming back for more.

Find a boyfriend who is golfer and then you will get free lessons!

It's completely random, but there's a boxing "studio" in Strongsville mall: http://empoweringpunch.com/. I know it's a bit of a hike, but I have a friend that swears by it. It's definitely more "boxing" than "kickboxing". I've been meaning to check it out for awhile. They've also run a few Groupon deals in the past.

My husband keeps begging me to go golfing. I said I'll golf when he yogas...

Allison - Your post made me laugh aloud today. I have also "tried" golf, but it's definitely not my sport of choice. Just give me a gym, heavy dumbbells/barbells, and a gallon jug of water any day, rather than those golf clubs. :)

golf is almost impossible for girls. We have boobs. I think women should be held in a higher regard when they are pro golfers!!

ohhh you will loooove boxing! We have a real boxing instructor at work, it is so fun to don the tape and gloves, and get to punch him for real (of course he is padded up and claims you can never hurt him) it's the BEST way to get out your aggression!!!!

I can also suggest MMA fighting...but if you join a gym for this, take another girl with you, because the fighting is "intimate" and very real, and the boys try to be easy on you, and feel akward with some of the holds. It was the best experience ever!!!

OMG I totally want to do boxing. I took golf lessons a few years ago- I just don't think I have the temperament for it. I was also playing tennis that summer tho- the whole vertical vs. horizontal swing threw me.

I like golf but it is definitely not female-chest friendly. That said, you look so fabulous doing it.
