the one where I take off my shoes

I knew these shoes were trouble when I purchased them at the last minute for the Jump Back Ball.

death to those strappy black shoes for a steal of $20
On Friday evening, it became very apparent that no matter how much I begged and pleaded with UPS to release my gold and black sparkly Nicole Miller Rent the Runway dress, they were going to hold it hostage and miss my delivery date for the event. I may or may have not held a small pity party for myself but quickly realized I had a beautiful David Meister back up dress and just needed a pair of heels to pull off my new look.

Little padding and a high heel = shoe-i-cide.

I found out just how truly uncomfortable the shoes were at hour four of wearing them and did the unthinkable inside the beautifully historic State Theater. I carefully peeled my shoes from my aching feet revealing two thick indents over my toes where the straps were and went barefoot for the rest of the night.

Yes, gasp all you want (I still am at myself) but oh how amazing my feet felt when they could breathe and function again. Also, for those ladies who are shaking their heads in disapproval of me, I even reinforced these shoes with gel inserts but without a platform toe, I was doomed from the start.

Still shaking my head at myself for this!

Aside from being THAT girl who was barefoot with friends dancing in front of the speakers to a remix of Baby One More Time, take a look through my iPhone's photos to see what my friends and I were up to for other portions of the 23rd annual Jump Back Ball: Shaken not Stirred.

Donna, Kelly, Lisa and Shibani; Carrie and Donna dancing with the band; vodka galore
Everyone wanted to rock the Pharrell's hat we brought, even the singer from Your Villian My Hero

Tara, Carrie, Donna and me; cocktails all around; Donna with the best prop of the night

Another February, another Jump Back Ball down for the books. If you missed out this year, keep your eyes peeled for the ticket kick off party next November because it may just sell out faster than 10 days for next year's event.

Disclaimer: As part of my partnership with PlayHouse Square for Jump Back Ball, I was contracted to write about the event how I see fit. Hat not included. Hair provided by Laine at Charles Scott Salon and Spa in Westlake - I absolutely loved the curly wrapped wave thing I had going on.

shaken or stirred is the most important question

Next Thursday marks an important day for Clevelanders looking to attend one of the best parties of the winter on February 22.

Jump Back Ball is really the party that gets my friends and I through the long winter months. You have the lovely Christmas then New Years and then a big break of emptiness. No events (except if you could my birthday), staying indoors gets a little redundant and sometimes you just need a party.

Enter the Jump Back Ball. It is the event that leaves you looking forward to something at the end of February. Let's you get dressed up, attend with friends, meet new ones and party in the legendary theater district for a Saturday night.

Why do we all get so excited about this event?

Well, please scan through photos from last year's event to see what an amazing time we all had. Or, you can read about my take on the the past three year's event - Passport to Party in 2011, Through the Looking Glass in 2012, and Jump Back Two Spaces in 2013.

dancing the night away at Playhouse Square

It's been over 24 hours and my feet are still throbbing a little from all the dancing from Saturday night. Between Jump Back Ball and old school hip hop at Touch, my hips, J.Lo and feet need a break from high heels (and you know how hard this is for me) and a massage. Desperately. Like this week.

Saturday's annual Jump Back Ball marked my third time in attendance with each time getting a little bit better with choosing better dress choices, the committee selecting awesome bands and even my choice in drink. (I have finally learned to stick to just one drink for the entire night.)

It takes a village to get ready people; with Danielle, hair and makeup extraordinaire at Headquarters Salon

JBB party time with Christina; sequins and feathers on me; no event can happen w/out the sponsors

There are a few reasons why I love attending the Jump Back Ball but one of them is because it's a festive winter event to get everyone out of the house and out on town all dressed up. It's a small reminder that when Jump Back ends, spring is literally (hopefully) right around the corner in a few weeks. Or we can at least hope and pray and do sun dances to get warmer temperatures by April!

A little self lighting; party in the bathroom; Velvet Shake rocking out; first timers to JBB

Carrie in cobalt blue; spin the wheel at your leisure; my favorite board game brought to life

the one and only group photo demanded by Carrie

From the food to the ice sculptures to the props, the committee behind JBB can take a breather because it was truly another perfectly pulled off event. Having volunteered before for shop nights where the decorations and props are brainstormed and constructed, the people behind this event work day in and day out up to Saturday to make this happen so seamlessly so props to all of you for volunteering your time each year.

So. Is it Spring yet?

I've never met a sequin I didn't like

It's that time again, Cleveland!

It's the ticket kick off event for Playhouse Square's Jump Back Ball "Jump Back Two Spaces" happening tomorrow.

Where: Market Garden Brewery
What: Jump Back Ball ticket sales
When: Thursday, November 15,  5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Ticket prices: $135 per person and $110 each if you are a Partner like me! (Two ticket minimum)

If you are thinking of going to the event on February 23, you want to scoop up your tickets tomorrow because this will be the lowest price to purchase tickets at for the event.

Don't wait - get them early rather than waiting until the last minute because tickets will 1) sell out by early January 2) be more expensive and you can use the money you saved on a pair of shoes for the event instead!

Never been? Take a look through last year's event here to get a feel for what it's like from start to finish.

Ticket kick off time means the start of a search for a perfect dress for the evening. With all the holiday sales coming up in the next six weeks, I'd be a fool to not take advantage of them for this event and I'm already thinking sequins for this year's event.

Wearing the color of the season - oxblood - in all sequins from Topshop at $130

Plum sequin dress from BCBG for $298

Rose gold + sequins = my dress...when it goes on sale....BCBG for $448

It's early (I know) but I'm already getting a head start on what I want to wear even though it will come down to a game time decision. Doesn't it always?!?

through the looking glass - jump back ball

If you weren't at the Jump Back Ball this year, you really should mark your calendar for February 23, 2013 and get yourselves and friends to this event.

photo borrowed from Monina

Last week, Alexa and Cleshopaholic helped me choose from over 10 dresses that I ordered from sparkles to sequins to one shoulder to strapless. I couldn't make a decision and was up to my elbows in everything shiny so they saved the day and picked out a winner in a brand I never wear - Jessica Simpson. Who knew, right?

Why yes it's possible to have a winning dress and by winning, I mean that NO ONE else had the same sparkly, lacy navy dress that my friends decided was the one to rock.

Pre JBB, I hosted a few friends over to sip on cocktails before we headed down the street to the main event. There's nothing quite like getting ready with your friends, especially when your friend just happens to be your personal hair and make up guru for any and every occasion. (See the talented Danielle below.)

And the process begins....
How was the party? Fabulous. As always. While I've only attended the past two years, I will say it is an event that I look forward to and always try to recruit more friends to attend because it's that great of a time. It's like nothing I've ever been to in Cleveland. This year's theme was "Through the Looking Glass" aka Alice in Wonderland in my head and the committee pulled it all together from the decorations to the food to the props set up through the theater. (Side note: As a kid, I always thought people were saying "Allison's wonderland" so I never understand why Alice had blonde hair if I had brown. Clearly, my mother should've correct me and if she did, obviously I wasn't paying attention.)

Danielle, me and Carli

the stage - loved the theme and decorations
best dressed goes to Nick with his fashionable wife peeking from behind him

Radio Active - the lead singer loves her sequins too!
on the dance floor

clutches on the ground = better dancing

Lia, Danielle, yours truly and Katie

And we did.

When the party cleared out, we headed over to Touch Supper Club for old school hip hop night. Yes, we were incredibly overdressed and no we didn't care because even Snoop Dogg likes a fancy dress.

Sunday Funday began with a trip back to Touch because we didn't get enough of a fill the night before for brunch, a round of mimosas and bloody mary's with friends.

chicken and waffles, you win

Wrapping out this fashionable weekend, I joined a few friends to watch the Oscars Red Carpet live in a not-so-fashionable outfit involving leggings, oversized shirt, pearls and the same hair I had from the night before. My friends, I was doing the walk of shame all day and loved it - I thought adding the pearls helped!  As usual if you follow any of us on Twitter, the critique session was filled with smart and witty comments from everyone but the oscar goes to Suzanne.

My best dressed goes to Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Ellie Kemper and Guiliana Rancic. Hate on J.LO but she always brings the glamour to the red carpet, even though that dress did have those random arm holes.

Ahhhhh, another successful weekend complete.

Editors note: Shout out to reader Sara(h) - it was great to meet you and your man and thanks for reading. Oh, and I also received one comp'd ticket for blogging about the JBB, in case the FCC wants to patrol this blog.

where you should be on February 25

Where will you be on February 25th?

Do you know?

Do you want plans?

I will be with 800+ other people dancing the night away, sipping martinis out of ice luges and hanging out at the 21st annual Jump Back Ball. The party consists of two amazing bands, Tricky Dick and the Cover Ups (late night band) and RadioActive (main stage), who played the event last year.

So much fun.

There's also delicious food and open bar which is included in your ticket price, and the VIP food will be catered by AMP 150 again this year. All this fun can be yours for either VIP tickets for $200 or general admission at $170 each. (That's my best Price is Right impersonation!) The money raised from this event goes to PlayHouseSquare's not-for-profit mission and raised $140,000 last year.

Last year, I was chosen as one of the JBB bloggers where I shared about the event and kicked myself for not going sooner to this party that I heard all my downtown friends talk about.

Typically overheard from my friends:

"You'vvvvvvvvvveeee never been?"

"How is thissssss even possible?"

After attending last year and inviting a group of new attendees, that same group purchased tickets again for this year and we've already started to plan our outfits as to what we will wear. (Fascinator anyone?)

My friend Katie found her dress last year at Nordstrom's and realized she needed to pick that up for this year's party upon seeing a girl wear it at the event and she looked hot. The theme is Through the Looking Glass and some people do get dressed up in theme, which is totally awesome by the way, so I hope someone comes dressed as the Queen of Hearts or the Mad Hatter or even Alice for that matter.

So last year, I posted a few dresses as possible options and I'm leaning toward officially doing Rent the Runway for reals this year.

While I have over a month to find a dress, I guarantee you that I will be scrambling last minute to find something to wear out of my friends' closets as the date comes closer.

And, if you are interested in coming, I suggest you purchase your tickets very quickly. If you are on the fence, you should come and here's a first timer's guide to answer any of your questions. The event sells out so it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when the event sells out and you don't want to miss this either.

Disclosure: I received a free ticket in exchange for blogging about this fabulous event I was going to attend. I'm bringing a girl friend who hasn't been and is equally excited to attend her first JBB.

rewind: jump back ball 2011

As I lay here in bed watching the Oscars preview, it's safe to say that my first Jump Back Ball experience was an amazing success.

So much so that I've spent most of the afternoon (and into the evening) in bed.

Damn you hurricanes!

We all had a blast. That's a complete understatement for my group of friends because it was such a good night of dancing, drinking, falling, then more falling, then ice luging and then more dancing. (There was so much food available (missed the damn pretzels!) but we were busy on the dance floor. While I didn't wear the dress everyone voted on (it didn't get great reviews) , I ended up borrowing the dress from my friend and was happy with the end result.

Quotes remembered from the night:
BF to his friend: "Why the hell didn't we come to this when we were single?"
His friend to the BF: "Seriously, what the hell were we thinking?" Cue eye rolling.
Same friend: "We are coming to this every year."

While I didn't spend too much eating food, it was definitely delicious but I missed the soft pretzels! Noooooo! I was too busy dancing to the Menus with my friends and then to RadioActive. Whoever booked this band should get a big high five- they were awesome. They played everything from Lady Gaga to Notorious B.I.G. and sounded amazing.

Now, on with the show!

Early on in the night

absolutely loved this band

great idea then, not a good idea in the morning. Doesn't my friend look like Kate Middleton?
The BF putting the moves on Lia

And here's a video recap of the night in 1:35 that didn't contain too much shaky video, laughing or talking in the background.

Disclosure: I was given a pair of tickets to attend this awesome event. However, I was planning on going and buying my tickets even if I wasn't given them and will continue to attend every year! Thanks Steph and Cindi.

rent the runway - Jump Back Ball style

In just a few weeks, I'll be attending my first Jump Back Ball with the BF and a group of friends. I've heard about the event from friends who have previously attended and they said it rocked. It was amazing. It was the party in Cleveland not to miss.

Back in November, I wrote about the kick off ticket party and how I was selected along with Seanski to receive a pair of tickets.
For everyone who purchased tickets (Sorry, tix are sold out now), here is a preview of Passport to Party:
Fun activities which will be even more hilarious after a few glasses of wine:
Caricature artist (I'll flash my calves)
Fortune tellers (this could be hilarious)
Gambling (The BF is pretty good)
Jugglers (Can I join in?)
Labatt photo booth (this can be trouble)

And the bands.....
Polka band (I'm 25% polish!)
The Menus
RadioActive

And the food.....
VIP party catered by AMP 150
Absolut martini bar (dirty one please!)
Around the world buffet from Sammy's
Drumrolllll..... a sno cone machine.

While all that's great, let's not forget about one of the most important parts of the event - the fashion.

Seeing as I've never been to many "balls" in my life, I feel like now is an excellent time to try Rent the Runway. A few of my friends have rented from here and it's been featured on all sorts of shows, including when Gossip Girl named dropped it on more than one occasion.

Over the past month, I've been perusing the site to look for a possible dress to rent. The hardest part is choosing one because there are so many amazing designers I can't afford but I can rennnnnnnnttttt one.

So, here are the dresses I like and are under $100 (that's key my friends). When choosing, please keep in mind these models are sticks. I'm 5'7" and probably 150 pounds with some sturdy legs, so I'd like your opinion on which dress I should rent - maybe you all can sway my decision one way or the other.

Dress #1
Badgley Mischka
Short and sassy with a nice color
Dress #2
Mark & James By Badgley Mischka
short and sassy with a bit of fringe

Dress #3
Mark & James By Badgley Mischka
long and elegant with delicate details

Dress #4
Nicole Miller
long and sultry and so not something I'd pick

Personally, I'm leaning toward #2 or #3 but I'm not sure I can pull off a maxi dress. Plus, it all depends if these will be available when I go to rent it too.

So, dear blog readers, which dress should I choose?

Jump back - Passport to Party

Wednesday, November 10, 2010
A few weeks back, I received one of my most exciting emails of my life for this little blog. It's been awhile since I've been this excited about getting pitched. The last time I did a dance was when I was introduced to my fairy fashion god mother, Justine, who introduced me to my new favorite jeans from the Gap. (I do believe the straight leg have been replaced by the jean legging.)

So, what has made me so excited you asked?

Drumrrrrrrrrrrrollllllllllll.........

It's Jump Back Ball Time!

If you aren't familiar with it, let me introduce you to the event -

Here are a few pictures to flip through from last year's event.

So, if you want to go, I suggest you free up next Tuesday night to purchase your tickets. You will be able to buy tickets at the deepest discount for one night only at the Kickoff Party. Tickets are $120 per ticket ($100 if you are a PlayhouseSquare Partner) with NO handling fees.(There is a 2 ticket limit per person at the Kickoff.) The following day, ticket prices will increase to $140 plus handling. So if you attend the Kickoff, you can save $20+ per ticket. (That's some shopping money right there.)

Kickoff Party details:

Where: Zinc, 668 Euclid Ave, Cleveland

When: Tuesday, November 16, 6-8pm

This is the first time I'll be attending with the BF and a group of newcomers too. You better believe I will Rent the Runway for this party.

Disclaimer: I was given two fabulous tickets for this event in exchange for this post and another one that will be happening in the future.
